01

Why maintenance timing matters

Retightening organizes new growth at the root so small locs remain separated and structurally supported. When maintenance is delayed for too long, neighboring locs can begin to marry, loose hair may travel into the wrong base and the appointment can require significantly more time. Too-frequent or overly tight work can create a different problem by placing unnecessary stress on the root.

A healthy schedule balances those risks and reflects your individual growth rate. Your stylist will look at new growth, grid condition, scalp comfort and previous maintenance rather than guaranteeing that every client should return on exactly the same calendar. Consistency and communication usually matter more than chasing a perfect number of weeks.

02

What happens during a retightening visit

The appointment begins with a practical review of the locs and scalp. The stylist identifies marrying, slippage, bunching, weak areas, excessive buildup or sections that may need repair. Listed Sisterlocks™ retightening with shampoo starts at $130, while microloc retightening with shampoo starts at $220. Final time and price can change when there is extensive new growth or corrective work.

Retightening follows the appropriate pattern for the loc system and the condition of each area. The goal is a clean, organized base without using painful tension as proof of quality. Tell your stylist immediately if a section feels uncomfortable; thoughtful maintenance should protect the scalp as well as improve the finished appearance.

03

Preparing for a smoother appointment

Follow the preparation instructions attached to the selected service. If shampoo is included, avoid arriving with heavy oils, gels or waxes that are difficult to remove. Share recent changes such as medication, pregnancy, scalp irritation, color services, breakage or unusual shedding because those details can affect the safest approach.

Transfer clients should explain the loc type, usual rotation or maintenance method, last service date and any known repairs. Photos and clear notes help Tae assess the request before approval. The salon may recommend a consultation when the history is unclear or the amount of corrective work cannot be estimated from the booking information.

04

Care between retightening appointments

Cleanse on the rhythm recommended for your hair and scalp, dry the locs thoroughly and separate neighboring locs gently after washing. Use lightweight products that do not leave heavy residue inside small locs. Protect the hair during sleep and avoid repeatedly pulling the same areas into tight styles, particularly around the edges and nape.

If you notice locs joining together, sudden thinning, persistent tenderness or a change in the scalp, contact the salon instead of waiting until the next routine visit. Early attention can make the issue easier to assess. For medical scalp symptoms, seek advice from a qualified healthcare professional; salon care does not replace medical treatment.

05

Approval, deposit and reminders

Select the correct maintenance service, proposed time and preferred stylist. Guest booking is permitted and an account remains optional. The terms checkbox records the policy version accepted with the request. Submitting places the appointment in pending status—it does not charge a deposit or promise final confirmation.

Tae reviews the request in the admin portal. On approval, she can send the Square deposit link by text. The 50% deposit secures the appointment. Planned Square, Resend and Twilio integrations will recognize successful payment, send confirmation and deliver reminders one week, three days and 24 hours before the scheduled time. This keeps the client and salon aligned on whether a seat is merely requested, approved or fully confirmed.

Frequently asked questions

How often should I book a retightening?

The best rhythm depends on growth rate, loc size, scalp needs and current condition. Your stylist can recommend a schedule after evaluating your hair.

What if I am transferring from another loctician?

Transfer clients can request service. Include your loc system, last maintenance date, usual method, repair history and photos when requested so the team can estimate fit and time.

Why are there different starting prices?

Sisterlocks and microloc services can involve different loc counts, methods and time requirements. New growth and corrective work also affect the final total.

Can I request Funmi, Yasmine or Taé?

Yes. All three perform the full service menu. Choose a preferred artist or allow the booking system to assign an available stylist.

Does submitting online confirm the time?

Not yet. The request stays pending until Tae approves it, then the salon sends the 50% Square deposit link. Payment confirms the appointment.

Can I cancel online?

Account holders may cancel in the portal while more than 48 hours remain. Guests should call the salon. The public cancellation policy explains deposit-transfer and late-cancellation rules.
